Rezident SAH 2022
“Am trecut de dealuri și păduri și am ajuns aici, acasă. Am aflat că satul Hundorf era de fapt împărțit în două sate, că oamenii și-au dat jos și si-au reconstruit biserica într-o noapte, că străzile erau pline de care cu boi și foarte mulți locuitori trăiau într-o comunitate unită. Am mai aflat și despre salcia de doliu care te îmbrățișează și te primește cald spre o altă existență, despre desenele cu struguri și conexiunea puternică dintre oameni și natură și despre dorința acestora de a fi iarăși unii cu alții.
Simbolurile pe care le-am descoperit și pe care le-am inventat spun povestea locului, al lor și al meu, ele stau acum brodate cu un fir de ață în fața altarului bisericii evanghelice.”
Proiectul Lenei propune două direcții diferite de interacțiune cu lumea satului: prin broderie și fotografie. Lucrarea brodată înfățișează o simbioză de simboluri culese de pe pereţii caselor, bisericilor şi de pe pietrele de mormânt îmbinate cu simboluri inventate de către artistă. Pe pânză pot fi zărite dealurile, ploaia, strugurii, toate fiind interconectate.
Existența simbolurilor care aparțin trecutului din sat continuă să persiste prin experiența subiectivă pe care artista o are în timpul prezent cu imaginea lor și prin modul în care le integrează în broderiile ei.
A doua parte a proiectului, seria de fotografii ilustrează perspectiva realismului magic a trăirilor din satul Hundorf- portrete, fiinţe şi poveşti.
“Tot ce am făcut a fost să înțeleg prin joc, ca un copil, o lume nouă, primitoare, curioasă și minunată. Am mâncat măceșe, am dormit sub stele și am strâns pietre. Am îmbrățișat locul și oamenii cu toată iubirea mea.”
Lena Ciobanu folosește arta ca pe un proces, o descoperire intuitivă a lumii, unde mediile de exprimare se descompun unele în altele. Este atrasă de descoperirea intuitivă a simţirii umane şi a conexiunii profunde pe care fiinţele le au cu ei înşişi şi cu lumea din jurul lor. Se găsește pe sine prin tot ceea ce face, plutind într-o estetică a realismului magic. Are două tipuri de aborđări: cea de jurnal, autoetnografie, unde face conexiuni între întâmplările din viața ei, ceea ce percepe şi simte într-un anumit context şi cea a unei abordări teoretice, detaşate, gândite şi analizate în amănunt. Aceste abordări de cele mai multe ori se contopesc.

“I crossed the hills and the woods and I arrived << at home>> . I found out that the Hundorf village was in the past split into two different villages, that the locals have rebuilt their church in one night and that oxcarts were once filling the streets.
I also found out about the mourning willow that embraces you and welcomes you to another realm of existence, about the grapes symbolism and the strong connection between people and nature.
The symbols that I came across and that I also made up myself tell the story of this place which is the local’s place and now my place also. The symbols are now embroidered with a string and is place in front of the evangelical church altar.”
Lena’s project presents two different means of interacting with the village: through embroidery and photography. The embroidery presents a gathering of symbols collected from the walls of houses, churches and tombstones combined with a series of events transformed into invented symbols. Hills, rain, grapes and creation itself are central. They all find their place, being interconnected.
The existence of the symbols that belong to a forgotten past of the village continue to live on through the subjective experience that the artist herself has in the present moment and her interaction with them through her embroidery.
The second part of the project consists of a series of pictures that capture a magical-realist view of Hundorf. They represent portraits of people, of living beings, of special places.
“Playing like a child, I discovered a new world, both cosy and wonderful. I ate rosehip, I slept under the stars, I collected stones. I embraced the place and the people with all my love.”
Lena Ciobanu uses art as a process, an intuitive discovery of the world, where the mediums of expression decompose into each other. She is attracted to the intuitive discovery of human feeling and the deep connection that beings have with themselves and the world around them. She tries to find herself through everything she does, floating in an aesthetic of magical realism. She has two types of approaches that most of the time she tries to balance; that of the diary, autoethnography, where she makes connections between everything that happens to her, everything that she feels from a certain context and associates with personal history and that of a theoretical approach, detached, thought and analyzed in detail. These approaches often merge.
