Rezident SAH 2022
“Lâna este adesea lăsată pe margine de drum sau pe dealuri de către ciobani pentru că ei cred că e inutilă, ceea ce e păcat. Prin tehnici de împâslire poți realiza tot felul de obiecte dacă ești creativ. Poți face păpuși de casă, dar acesta este doar un mic exemplu.”
Pentru a împâsli lâna este nevoie de apă, săpun, efort și multă răbdare. Proiectul textil realizat de Edit Vinter și Theodora Scurtu are ca punct de pornire îmbinarea tehnicilor tradiționale precum împâslitul cu apă și săpun cu cele moderne precum împâslirea cu acul, păstrând un echilibru între cele două și incluzând totodată atmosfera satului. Cromatica este puternic influențată de dinamica satului, care are un ritm și un zumzet specific, în care viața localnicilor pare a fi desprinsă din basme.
Cele două i-au încurajat pe copiii din Hundorf să își lase imaginația să zboare și să încerce să creeze obiecte din lână împâslită. Iar procesul s-a dovedit a fi distractiv pentru toată lumea.
Edit și Theodora au încercat să integreze în lucrările lor și o mică parte din experimentele făcute la atelierele de împâslit pe care le-au ținut.
Cele două speră ca prin proiectul lor să creeze o conștientizare mai mare asupra posibilităților de a utiliza lâna atât în mod creativ, cât și practic. Folosirea lânii ar putea ajuta creșterea producției locale și este un material sustenabil. Pentru ele este important ca obiectele țesute să nu dispară și vor să arate că pot fi aduse în prezent și de ce nu, în viitor.
Theodora Scurtu a absolvit licența/master în Design Textil la Universitatea de Vest din Timișoara și este membru stagiar al Uniunii Artiștilor Plastici din România. Majoritate lucrărilor ei sunt transpuse în bidimensional și tridimensional în strânsă legătură cu simboluri vegetale și elemente tradiționale.
Edit Vinter a studiat la Universitatea de Artă și Design din Cluj-Napoca, fiind absolventă a ciclului de master al Facultății de Arte Decorative și Design promoția 2020 a secției arte textile-design textil. Majoritatea conceptelor abordate de Edit au un punct comun și anume fascinația pentru tot ce se întâmplă în natură, lumea vegetală, universul microscopic. Consideră că ceea ce ne înconjoară este o sursă inegalabilă de inspirație care contribuie la dezvoltarea creativității.

“Wool is too often thrown on the side of the road, or left onto the hills by the shepherds, because they think it is useless. Through wool and wool felting you can make various objects, if you are creative. You can make home-made dolls, but this is just a small example.”
In order to do wool felting you need water, soap, effort and a lot of patience. Regarding their project, Scurtu Theodora and Vinter Edit developed and combined traditional techniques, such as tafting with water and soap, with new ones, such as needle tafting, keeping a balance between the two while also depicting the village's atmosphere.The choice of colors is influenced by the village's dynamic, in which the locals' lives have a specific, buzzing, fairytale-like flair.
They encouraged the kids to free up their imagination and try to make their own felting wool objects. And the process turned out to be fun for everyone!
Theodora and Edit integrated some of the experiments that they conducted with the local community into their works.
By making wool based objects, they aim to help raise awareness on the possibilities of using the material in a creative and practical way. The use of wool could help increase the local production in the village and is also sustainable. For them it’s important to show that you can bring the craft into the present day and future, thus preventing it from disappearing completely.
Theodora Scurtu graduated her BA and MA in Textile Design at the West University from Timisoara and is currently a running member of the Plastic Artists Union from Romania. Most of her work is comprised of bidimentional and three dimensional pieces, combining vegetal symbolism and traditional elements.
Edit Vinter graduated the master degree in textile arts/textile design at the University of Art from Cluj-Napoca in 2022. Most of her work has a common thread, that being the fascination with nature, the vegetal world and the microscopic universe. The artist believes that our surroundings are an irrefutable source of inspiration that contributes to the development of creativity.
